AFCON 2021: Tunisia coach issues strong warning to Nigeria ahead of knockout clash
Tunisia assistant coach, Jalal Al-Qadri has vowed to end Nigeria’s fine run at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Nigeria will face Tunisia in a knockout match on Sunday as both teams battle for a place in the quarter-final of the tournament and the coach is confident his team can upset the Super Eagles.
Getting to this stage, Nigeria has beaten two North African opponents, a 1-0 win over Egypt and 3-1 defeat of Sudan.
But the Tunisian coach believes his side has the gameplan to beat Nigeria in their second round encounter at the Roumde Adija Stadium, Garoua, on Sunday.
Tunisia has struggled in the competition with a win and two defeats from three games and will miss about 11 of their players ahead of Sunday’s clash with the Super Eagles after they tested positive to COVID-19.
“Every game has a game plan and we have a plan for tomorrow. We know that Nigeria did well in all their group games. But the knockout stage will be a different ball game,” the 51-year-old told a press conference on Saturday.
“It’s true that we have been handicapped by the absence of key players due to COVID-19. This has affected our performance.
“The rest of the players are ready to defend the colours of the nation. We will give our best against Nigeria.”
