As parts of its efforts aimed at preparing all inclusive 2022 budget, the Bauchi State Government has conducted public hearings across the three senatorial zones in the state with a view to getting citizens’ inputs ahead of presentation of the proposed budget before the state House of Assembly for passage.

Speaking at the Bauchi South zonal hearing, held at the Zaranda Hotel, Bauchi, on Thursday, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Aminu Hammayo, informed that was meant to get the input of people at the grassroots before the formulation and consolidation of the budget.

According to him, the state government planned to consolidate on the gains of its budget preparation such that the next budget would be demand driven.

Hammayo, who was among the newly sworn in commissioners in the state, said the public hearings across the state would also allow for a wider participation and all inclusiveness of citizens and to create a sense of ownership and sustainability of government projects.

“The process has started in line with the provision of the law in the preparation for the budget. This also gives us an opportunity for us as government to interact with people and we considered it as a mechanism for feedback,” the commissioner said.

He, therefore, urged participants to provide useful inputs and advice in line with development objectives of the state government and its funding constraint.

Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Honourable Abdulrazak Nuhu Zaki, assured that the Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed-led administration would continue to execute and implement people-oriented projects across the state within the limit of available resources.

This, Zaki said, was to ensure that the government improved the living conditions of the people in the state through putting their inputs in the budget process.

While speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Yahuza Adamu, informed that the state government had executed a number of developmental projects in road, education, water, health sectors, among others, as contained in the 2021 Appropriation Act.
