Alhaji Aminu Alhassan, Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, has called on individuals with deep pockets to come to the aid of the Nigeria Police Force in terms of housing infrastructure.

He said they were presently challenged in that respect, saying the force belongs to the people.

Alhassan stated this when he received a police station and ongoing construction of living quarters for policemen in the Bendeghe-Ekeim community in the Etung Local Government Area of the state.

The facilities were constructed by a native of the community, Dr. Oscar Ofuka, a cocoa expert and advisor.

The commissioner expressed delight at such a philanthropic and generous gesture of the donor.

According to him, “if every community has philanthropic and generous-minded people like the donor, the society would be a far better place to stay”.

Alhassan encouraged the donor to complete the living quarters so as to enable the officers and men of the force to move in comfortably with their families.

Dr. Ofuka has assured that in no distant time the quarters which are already at lintel level will be completed and handed over to the Police authorities for formal commissioning.

Ofuka frowned at the theft of materials at the building sites and assured that nothing would deter him from completing the quarters as he has done with the Police Station.

He said he was bent on contributing towards the peace and security of lives and properties of the Etung people as well as complementing the effort of the State Government in security projections hence the donation.

Bendeghe-Ekeim Town Council Chairman, Mr. Obi Ndoma, and Chairman of the Youth Council, Mr. Mgbeh Takon condemned the criminal acts at the sites, assuring that perpetrators will be fished out and brought to book soon.
