EFCC calls for collaboration with CBN to fight fraudulent investment schemes in Niger Delta
Assistant Commander of the Port Harcourt Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ace Aliyu Naibi, has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria to offer the anti-graft agency more information and other forms of support in tackling fraudulent investment managers operating in the Niger Delta area of Nigeria.
Naibi, who made this call when the Rivers State Branch Controller of CBN, Oruwari O. B paid him a courtesy visit in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, decried the alarming rate of fraudulent investment managers in Rivers State and the attendant loss of funds by various investors.
In a statement by EFCC Head of Media of Publicity Wilson Uwujaren, Naibi sued for more support from the CBN to stem the tide of such cases, saying that the agency cannot investigate any investment fraud case without the CBN
He explained that although the CBN was always referring investigators of fraudulent investment schemes to the Security and Exchange Commission, SEC, but insisted that the apex bank could still be supportive in debunking claims of such dubious managers.
On his part, the CBN branch Controller, Oruwari O. B said the CBN was aware of issues related to the fraudulent investment managers and working to create more public and market awareness about their sharp practices.
He also commended the EFCC for building effective public consciousness about economic and financial crimes and their accompanying consequences.
