Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has called for the involvement of safety engineers in all project execution in Nigeria to forestall engineering-related failures as seen in the country.

He added that non-consultation, as well as the failure of safety engineers to carry out their duties, could spell serious consequences.

The Emir stated these in his palace when he received members of the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers, led by their chairman-elect Engr. Akaninyene Ekong on a courtesy visit ahead of 2022 National investiture and swearing-in ceremony in Uyo Akwa Ibom State

He said, ”If Safety Engineers fail to do their duties it will have serious consequences as seen in engineering related failures where Safety Engineers were not consulted. However, Safety Engineers should be involved with projects.

“You are leading the Institution today not because you are the most senior or brilliant Engineer, but because you were chosen by God. I congratulate you on your appointment as the National Chairman of Nigeria Safety Engineers. I will ensure Northern Safety Engineers are incorporated in your institution as this will help in developing Safety competency through your training programs and expanding socio-cultural cooperation and I do hope that your institution will promote unity amongst members.”

Earlier, Engr. Akaninyene Ekong appreciated the Emir for his kindness in accepting to receive him and his delegation at very short notice and prayed to God to continue to sustain his health /Safety and for his dynasty.

He emphasized that he was in his palace to pay homage to the Emir of Kano as a national traditional leader

Ekong hinted that the professional engineering body cannot be truly national without engineers from the North as members, to foster unity of purpose, development and peace.

He further hinted at plans of the body to establish a Safety commission in Kano state for the expansion of frontiers of Safety Engineering practice.

His words, “We want to expand the frontiers of Safety Engineering practice to the North hence our consideration of Kano State which is a commercial/industrial hub as a Chapter of Nigeria Safety Engineers.”

He also stated that the particular nature of Kano with its high-level commerce and industrial processes requires a safety commission to regulate, monitor and ensure compliance to Safety standards.

Ekong sought the blessings of His Royal Highness as he works towards establishing chapters of the institution in the north.

The Nigerian Institute of Safety Engineers, NISafetyE, has disclosed its plans to establish a safety commission in Kano State, a northern part of Nigeria for the expansion of frontiers of safety engineering practice.
