EPL: Alan Shearer names bully in Chelsea team after 3-1 at Villa Park
Newcastle legend, Alan Shearer has described Romelu Lukaku as a bully following his performances in Chelsea’s 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.
According to Shearer, the Belgian striker ‘bullied’ two of Aston Villa’s players on the pitch.
Reece James’ own goal put Aston Villa ahead inside half an hour at Villa Park but they hit back just minutes later through a Jorginho penalty.
Lukaku was then introduced at half-time for defender Trevoh Chalobah, with Christian Pulisic.
Belgium international Lukaku had missed his team’s last three games with COVID but made an instant impact off the bench.
Lukaku wreaked havoc on the Villa defence and got the crucial goal to put visitors in front with a fine header.
Lukaku also won Chelsea’s second spot-kick of the match late on when he was brought down by Ezri Konsa in the box.
During his analysis on Match of the Day, Shearer hailed the performance of the Belgium international and highlighted how he ‘bullied’ Villa centre-backs Konsa and Tyrone Mings.
“It [Lukaku coming on] was the game-changer because Villa had it far too easy and was the better team in that first half,” Shearer said.
“Pulisic played as a false nine didn’t work for them at all.
“The two centre-halves, Konsa and Mings, had nothing really to think about in that first half, balls were going into the box without any pressure.
“But, half-time, all of a sudden that changes. Konsa and Mings have now got a battle, and they weren’t up to it, they got bullied the both of them by Lukaku.
“He did that for the whole second half, all of a sudden they’ve got a threat and something to think about in the box.
“No thought other than get the ball forward and into the box and try and get him on the end of it.
“Superb header but Mings is left wanting, he should go and attack that ball but he doesn’t and gets punished. Lukaku is too good and too strong for him.
“They were going nowhere in the first half until that guy [Lukaku] came on at half-time and changed it all.”
