EPL: ‘Bryan Robson, Steve Bruce didn’t get send-offs at Man United’ – Neville slams Lingard
Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville has slammed Jesse Lingard after the midfielder expressed his frustration for not getting the opportunity to say goodbye to the club’s supporters.
Neville mocked Lingard’s reaction to not being given a send-off, criticising the England international for even expecting an Old Trafford farewell.
Lingard and his family were reportedly left frustrated for not getting an Old Trafford send-off following Man United’s 3-0 victory over Brentford a few days ago, being their last home game.
The likes of Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic were given a standing ovation from the Old Trafford crowd.
Lingard is among the clutch of players expected to leave Man United this summer but remained on the bench against Brentford.
The midfielder was unhappy and the decision provoked an angry outburst from Lingard’s brother, Louie Scott, who posted an emotional message on Instagram, slamming interim manager Ralf Rangnick and Man United as a whole.
But reacting, Neville said, “The nonsense this week over Jesse Lingard… But I saw Bryan Robson and Steve Bruce not play in their last games for the club and not get a send-off in Cup finals,” he told Gary Neville Podcast.
“One of them is probably the greatest captain Manchester United have ever had, and the other is one of the greatest captains Manchester United have ever had – and they didn’t get the send-offs they wanted, the farewell from the fans. I’m not quite sure why Jesse Lingard deserves it.
“I was basically thrown away at West Brom in a toilet! At the end of the day, sometimes it just doesn’t work out Jesse!”
