EPL fixtures: Ralf Rangnick disagrees with Liverpool’s Klopp
Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, has disagreed with his Liverpool counterpart, Jurgen Klopp, after the latter’s latest angry rant about the festive period Premier League fixtures pile-up in England.
Klopp shared his fury about the congested Premier League fixtures between Christmas and New Year following his side’s Carabao Cup victory over Leicester City on Wednesday night.
The Reds boss told Sky Sports: “The problem is, and will always be, there is no reason for it. I have no problem with the Christmas games; Boxing Day is a wonderful game. Nobody wants to cancel that.
“Just 26th and 28th are absolutely impossible; it’s a joke that they still do it. [There is] no problem to play 26th and 29th.”
However, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Man United’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United on Monday, Rangnick, an idol for Klopp in many ways throughout his illustrious career, disagreed with his German compatriot.
The 63-year-old believes English football should keep its festive traditions and shared his excitement.
“You know better than I do what a big tradition it is to play on Boxing Day and the 27th,” Rangnick explained.
“And I think we should stick to this and respect this tradition. I’m looking forward to that for the first time in my coaching career.”
