EPL: It wasn’t red card, I caught the ball – Harry Kane insists after Tottenham’s 2-2 with Liverpool

Tottenham striker, Harry Kane has insisted that his tackle on Andy Robertson was not a red card offence.

The England striker even believes he won the ball during the challenge, which is not certainly the situation.

He feels the march officials led by referee Paul Tierney were right not to send him off for a tackle on Liverpool defender, Andy Robertson.

The incident took place during the first half of the 2-2 draw between Liverpool and Tottenham on Sunday.

The England striker had lunged into the ball before catching Robertson’s ankle with his studs, with referee Paul Tierney only showing him a yellow card.

Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp believed the England captain should have been sent off.

But Kane is adamant that a yellow card was more than sufficient.

“No. Definitely not [a red card]. It was a strong tackle but I thought I won the ball. Obviously, I haven’t seen it back,” Kane told Sky Sports.

“When you are playing against top sides and fighting for points sometimes there’ll be strong tackles. They checked it and we moved on.

“It didn’t feel like it and Andy on the pitch said, ‘you just caught my foot.’

“When you slow things down it makes it look a little worse than it is. That’s what VAR is there for.”
