EPL: Premier League reject Chelsea’s request to cancel Wolves clash
The Premier League has rejected a request from Chelsea to call off their trip to Wolves on Sunday, the UK Metro reports.
Five of the six fixtures due to take place on Saturday were postponed due to the spread of COVID-19 among players.
Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, on Friday confirmed Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ben Chilwell had all returned positive tests for COVID-19.
With more players likely to be ruled out against Wolves as a result of being deemed close contacts, the Blues sent a request to the Premier League for the game to be postponed.
But the request was turned down on Sunday morning.
“We are deeply disappointed that our application was rejected as we felt we had a strong case for the postponement of today‘s match on the grounds of players’ health and safety,” a spokesperson from Chelsea said.
