EPL: Ray Parlour names suitable captain for Arsenal
Arsenal legend, Ray Parlour has picked Kieran Tierney as his choice of a new Arsenal captain after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the position.
Arsenal had announced that Aubameyang will no longer be the club’s captain after being accused of disciplinary breach.
The 32-year-old Gabon international was omitted from Arsenal’s matchday squads for the wins over Southampton and West Ham.
Arteta will announce a leader for the Gunners but have to make do with the leadership of Alexandre Lacazette and Granit Xhaka at this point.
And Parlour would like to see 24-year-old left-back Tierney take up the role.
“When Tony Adams got the captaincy I think he was around 21. Certainly, you’re never too young,” Parlour told talkSPORT.
“Look at Declan Rice, he is the perfect example – he’s perfect for West Ham.
“I think it’s down to the manager to look at training and see who has the influence.”
Asked the player he would have as captain, Parlour replied, “Tierney – that’s what I’d like to see.
“If [Aaron] Ramsdale was a centre-half, he’d be number one.”
