EPL: Really difficult one – Redknapp rates Arsenal chances of finishing top four
Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Redknapp has rated Arsenal and Tottenham chances of qualifying for the Champions League after the north London derby ended in favour of Spurs on Thursday night.
Arsenal saw their top four hopes come under threat last night with Spurs reducing the gap to just one point in the north London derby.
Gunners’ boss, Mikel Arteta was clearly fuming after the game and hit hard at referee Paul Tierney after watching his side fell 3-0 to their top four challengers.
Harry Kane put Tottenham ahead after they were awarded a penalty as Cedric Soares was penalized for blocking Son Heung-min in the box.
Shortly after, Rob Holding was sent off for a second yellow card, with both fouls committed on Son.
Kane scored his second of the night shortly after Holding’s red card and Son put the game to bed immediately after half-time.
Rating their chances, Redknapp told Sky Sports, “It is a really difficult one. Arsenal know what they need to do. If they go to Newcastle and win and then beat Everton they get Champions League.
“Spurs on the other hand, of course they have much better fixtures, you would rather play Burnley at home and then Norwich away, Norwich are already down.
“Of course, you would rather have Spurs fixtures, but I would not mind being in Arsenal’s shoes because you know what you have got to do.
“But the other problem that Arsenal have got, and it is a really difficult one, is injuries. It looks like Gabriel has got an injury.
“They obviously haven’t got Rob Holding. Kieran Tierney is out injured. The back four has been pretty much dismantled. It is all to play for and Newcastle will be a really tough game for Arsenal.
“They somehow have to pick themselves up and I did not like how they played tonight. They were petulant. It was like the occasion got to them.”
