FG retracts, clarifies reports on planned sack of workers

Posted by on January 6, 2022 0

The Federal Government on Thursday dismissed claims that it was planning on sacking workers in a bid to save funds.

Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, made the denial during an interview on NTA’s ‘Good Morning Nigeria’ programme.

Ahmed explained that President General Muhammadu Buhari had said recurrently that no worker would be sacked.

She said the government would only encourage people to leave government jobs by giving them incentives.

Ahmed said, “Mr President doesn’t want to disengage staff. That is what he has directed from the beginning of his administration. He also directed that we pay salaries.

“The Federal Government has never failed in paying salaries and he said we must always pay pensions.

“So, he has been consistent in those directives and we have followed those directives to the letter.”

Recall that Ahmed had yesterday disclosed in a statement that the government has set up a committee to review the collapse of agencies, using the Stephen Oronsaye report.

According to her, the committee would be led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha.

She had said the Federal Government was working on an exit package for workers that would be affected.
