Gombe: Stop persecuting my supporters – Goje to Gov Inuwa
Senator representing Gombe Central Senatorial District, Danjuma Muhammad Goje, has called on the Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, to stop the persecution of his supporters for political reasons.
Speaking through his lawyer, Barrister Herbert Nwoye, at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the former governor alledged that his supporters are being persecuted by the Governor on a daily basis.
He reminded the Governor of a court order that both parties should maintain status quo, hence, Governor Inuwa’s persecution of his loyalists is a violation as final ruling was being awaited.
Nwoye said Goje, who chairs the Senate Committee on Marine Transport, has filed an ex parte motion before a Federal High Court in Gombe, where he sought an interim injunction restraining the police and the Gombe State Government from further invitation, continued reporting or interrogating him and his associates, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction against the state government.
“Following the crisis that erupted sometime ago when my client – Senator Goje was attacked while on his way from the airport to attend a wedding, he’s has been frequently invited and interrogated.
“They are doing that for political reasons and we went to Court seeking injunction to stop Gombe State government and it was granted”, he said.
He said the court had ruled in favour of his clients and granted their prayers pending the hearing and determination of their motion on the next adjourned date, January 18, 2022.
Goje’s lawyer alleged that Gombe State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Zubairu Mohammed Umar, and the State Acting Chief Judge, Justice Mu’azu Pindiga, were using the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, to humiliate and violate the right of Goje’s associates and supporters.
“As we speak, plans are on to re-arrest Goje’s new media aide, Muhammad Adamu Yayari after he had been granted bail when he was initially arrested over a Facebook post,” he added.
He said the media aide after his arrest spent 20 days in detention on the order of the Governor contrary to the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
Goje, Governor Muhammad Inuwa and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have been at daggers drawn over political issues in the state.
