Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba State has expressed shock over the demise of the Aku-Uka of Wukari, Dr. Shekarau Angyu Masa-Ibi.

The Governor, who expressed his sadness over the death through a press statement signed and made available to media practitioners on Sunday in Jalingo, described the late Aku Uka as a foremost paramount ruler whose reign brought peace, unity, and prosperity to Wukari, Taraba State and the entire ancient Kwararafa Kingdom.

He further described his reign as a period of self-discovery by the Jukun people of their strategic place in history and role in the promotion of modern civilisation in Nigeria and beyond.

Wondering why death snatched him at the time he is most needed, Ishaku described the late monarch as a leader with a rare sense of history.

Praising him for his immense contributions to the documentation of the historic contributions of the Jukun and the entire Kwararafa people to the emergence of modern nations in Africa and Nigeria in particular, his contributions to the growth of the state and the country at large, he said, will remain indelible in the minds of the people.

He said, “the demise of the traditional ruler at this point in time has robbed Taraba State and Nigeria of the benefits of his wise counsel which he offered very generously in his personal capacity and as chairman of the Taraba State Council of Chiefs.”

The late monarch, who was the 27th paramount ruler of Wukari and the 13th since the founding of the Wukari Federation, was said to have passed on to join his ancestors at the age of 84 after leading his kingdom for 45 years.

The paramount ruler, as gathered by our state correspondent, died last Friday after a brief illness.
