Ikpeazu mourns Abia ex-military Governor, Anthony Obi, extolls deceased’s virtues

Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has expressed deep sense of grief on the demise of late Colonel Anthony Obi (Rtd).

DAILY POST recalls that the late Col Obi was the military administrator of the State between August 1998 to May 29th 1999 and died on Saturday, January, 1st 2022 at the age of 70.

He managed the last stages of the transition to civilian rule and had the honour of handing over to former Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu.

The deceased retired military colonel who hailed from Akpugo in Nkanu west Local government area of Enugu State, also served as military administrator of Osun State prior to his transfer to Abia State where he took over from Col Moses Fasanya.

Reacting to his demise, in a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka on Tuesday in Umuahia, Governor Ikpeazu described the late col. Obi as an officer and a gentleman whose career in the Nigerian Army witnessed several successes.

According to Ikpeazu, “late Col Obi’s place in the history of Abia state is assured. Fate as destiny positioned him to play a critical role in our evolution into a democratic society.

“He had the exceptional privilege of being the last military officer to govern Abia state and also to hand over to a democratically elected Governor. We will always remember him”.

Governor Ikpeazu urged his family to find strength in the purposeful life he lived and in his indelible contributions to the nation, especially as an officer of the Nigerian Army.

The State Chief Executive, on behalf of his family, the Government and the people of Abia State sent his deepest sympathies to the family of the late Col Anthony Obi, while praying God to grant his soul eternal rest.
