Labour leader petitions EFCC Chair, Bawa over alleged refusal to prosecute ASCSN officials
The Congress of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (CSCSN), has petitioned the Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Abdulrasheed Bawa, over the alleged refusal of the commission to prosecute some officials of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN).
DAILY POST recalls that some officials of ASCSN among whom are Secretary-General of the union, Alade Bashir Lawal, Joshua Apebo, the Deputy Secretary-General of ASCSN and Akorede Fatai, the Chief Accountant, were accused of mismanaging some funds within the union.
DAILY POST recalls that the union has in the last few months been enmeshed in a series of crises.
But Andrew Emelieze who is a former Chairman of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) Oyo State chapter, petitioned the EFCC Chairman, Bawa, over what he described as delay in the prosecution of the officials.
Emelieze in a petition titled “Petition against EFCC’s refusal to file corruption charges against Alade Bashir Lawal and ASCSN despite all the discoveries made by your agency”, called on the EFCC to prosecute the officials without further delay.
The labour leader in the petition, a copy of which was made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday, appealed to the EFCC to ensure that this case is not compromised.
Emelieze on behalf of other workers enjoined Bawa not to allow some elements to spoil his name.
He said, “We are concerned members of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN). For some time now, we have been following the investigations conducted by your agency as regards the massive corruption that has engulfed the ASCSN worker’s Union.
“We are aware that two petitions were written against some top officials of ASCSN, calling for their investigations on graft and wrongful termination of the appointments of close to twenty-five young Nigerian workers in ASCSN by the then Secretary-General of the Union, Comrade Alade Bashir Lawal and his refusal to pay them their gratuities unless they sign anti-labour and illegal documents forced on them by Lawal.
“Furtherance to the monumental discoveries made by your agency, your agency was compelled by the unimaginable discoveries to seize the international passports of Comrade Alade Bashir Lawal, Comrade Joshua Apebo, the Deputy Secretary-General of ASCSN and Comrade Akorede Fatai, the chief accountant of the Union. We are also aware that your agency discovered and froze the 365 million naira investment of Comrade A B Lawal in Meristem securities limited. So also was 30 million seized from Akorede Fatai in the same Meristem securities limited.
“Mr Chairman Sir, We, as concerned members of the Union are calling on you to ensure the completion of investigations and the prosecution of the accused. What is at stake is a case of fraud against civil servants. Workers’ hard-earned money has been embezzled by tricksters masquerading as Comrades. Mr Chairman Sir, We, therefore, call on you to ensure that this case is not compromised.
“Please don’t allow them to spoil your name. Those that have stolen from the Union should be allowed to face the music and carry their cross. We, the workers are watching and we will not hesitate to picket any organization that wants to cover up the atrocities committed against our members”.
