No fewer than 600 suspected criminals were arrested by the Ondo State Security Network Agency known as Amotekun Corps in two weeks.

The corps, which disclosed this over the weekend, added that it also impounded over 550 cars across the state.

The state security outfit had few weeks ago deployed its operatives to major junctions in the state where they had been clamping down on unregistered and tinted vehicles.

While stating that the feat was achieved during Christmas and New Year holidays, the Commander of Amotekun in the State, Adeleye Adetunji maintained that feat was part of the ‘Operation Clean Up Phase 7’ embarked upon by the corps across the state in December 2021.

Disclosing this in Akure, the State capital the Corps Commander, Adeleye, said the suspects were nabbed following their involvement in various criminal acts.

According to the Amotekun boss, some of the suspects had been charged to court,

“We assured the people of Ondo State hitch-free Christmas and new year festivities and to the glory of God, throughout the period there were no criminal activities but in one or two instances where we had security breaches, the criminals were all arrested and brought to book.

“That was why we moved to the border patrols and you will recall that within 48 hours of commencement of border patrol, we were confronted by kidnappers and armed robbers. 17 victims were rescued in two separate operations.”

The Amotekun boss, however, noted that the ‘Operation Clean-Up phase 7’ which was planned to end by January 2, 2022 had not ended following the current state of insecurity in the state.
