Police smash suspected mobile phone snatching syndicate in Kano
Police in Kano State have smashed a suspected mobile phone snatching syndicate terrorising the people of Kano metropolis.
Spokesman of the command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa stated this in a press statement issued to DAILY POST.
He said the move followed the IGP’s directives to rid Kano State of all forms of crimes and criminality, the menace of thuggery (Daba), Drug Abuse (Kwaya) and other social vices, especially during this festive period.
Kiyawa said during the operation, six suspectes were nabbed while two tricycles, seventeen stolen mobile phones were recovered.
He explained that the suspectes disguise as tricycles operators, attack and snatch mobile phones of their passengers.
“On the 23/12/2021, police recieved reports from eight people of different addresses that on the same date at different times, they boarded Tricycles and the occupants inside conspired and stole away their Mobile Phones.
“The teams of our men immediately swung in to action and succeeded in the arrest of a 20 year old Abubakar Abdullahi of Maiduguri, Borno State and 20 year old Abubakar Muhd of Mubi, Adamawa State and Abdulkarem Abdullahi”
“Also on 24th December, police also intercepted a Tricycle with Reg. No. KANO FGG 216 QW and KAROTA Number DAL 19/1124 with two occupants, Sa’adu Jafar, Nafi’u Bala all of Kurna Asabe Quarters Kano”
“25 On /12/2021 at about 1800hrs, team of Operation Puff Adder also while on surveillance patrol at Zango Quarters Kano arrested 18 year old Isma’il Jamilu of Dawaki Quarters Kano in possession of four (4) Mobile Phones,” he said.
Kiyawa said the suspectes will be charged to court upon completion of discreet Investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko thanked the Government and the good people of Kano State for their prayers, continuous support, understanding, encouragement and cooperation.
