Serie A: Maurizio Sarri to sign Chelsea star for Lazio
Lazio manager, Maurizio Sarri, is set to bring Chelsea goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga to the club.
According to Sport, Sarri is keen on bringing Kepa to Lazio as he aims to avoid a goalkeeping issue arising in his team.
The Italian coached Kepa during his time at Chelsea back in the 2018/2019 season.
Both men briefly fell out when Kepa refused to be substituted in a Carabao Cup final defeat against Manchester City during the 2018/2019 season, but their disagreement appears to be a thing of the past.
Lazio’s current two goalkeeping options, Pepe Reina and Thomas Strakosha, are both out of contract in 2022, and the former is approaching his 40th birthday.
So, bringing in Kepa could ease concerns about who will take the gloves moving forward, though it is believed that an initial loan deal would be the most realistic outcome for Lazio.
Kepa has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea since Sarri left Stamford Bridge.
The 27-year-old is now behind Edouard Mendy in Thomas Tuchel’s pecking order.
The Spaniard has been restricted to just five appearances in all competitions this season, with only one of those coming in the Premier League.
