‘Sorry Sir Alex Ferguson’ – Cicinho gives reasons for snubbing Manchester United
Former Brazil international, Cicinho has explained why he snubbed Manchester United despite being inches away from joining the Old Trafford outfit in 2005.
The defender moved to Real Madrid from Sao Paulo in the winter window of the 2005/06 snubbing the Premier League giants.
The right-back admitted he was close to joining the Old Trafford landlords but ultimately changed his mind and signed with Real Madrid.
Cicinho spent only two season at the Santiago Bernabeu and left the Spanish giants for Roma in the summer of 2007, making just 32 appearances.
“Today marks 16 years since my arrival at Real Madrid,” the Brazilian wrote on Instagram.
“Sorry Sir Alex Ferguson, but in 2005 Roberto Carlos called me and asked me if I wanted to come play with him on the Galacticos team.
“Almost everything was ready for me to go to Manchester United, but how could I say ‘no’ to the opportunity to join Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos,[Zinedine] Zidane, [Luis} Figo, [David] Beckham, Robinho, Raul, Julio Baptista, [Iker] Casillas, Sergio Ramos and co.?”
