Transfer: We reject your move to our club – Atletico Madrid fans block Ronaldo
Atletico’s International Union of Fan Clubs have rejected a rumoured move by the club to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with various top clubs in Europe, including Chelsea, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and most recently, Atletico Madrid.
The 37-year-old Portugal international has reportedly told Red Devils hierarchy that he wants to leave Old Trafford this summer, barely one year after he returned to the club from Juventus.
The Portugal captain, who missed the club’s pre-season tour of Asia and Australia due to ‘family issues’, returned to the club’s training ground on Tuesday where he engaged Red Devils’ chiefs in talks over his future.
However, Atletico Madrid fans are totally against any move by the club to sign the football icon. Cristiano Ronaldo is a Real Madrid legend and all-time highest goalscorer.
“In light of the possibility of signing Cristiano Ronaldo, if it is more than a simple rumour without any basis, we express our absolute rejection of his hypothetical joining of our club,” the fans said in a statement, according to talkSPORT.
“The aforementioned player represents the antithesis of the values that constitute the hallmarks of our Atleti, such as the effort, generosity, modesty and humility of those who want to defend our values.
“Even in the highly unlikely hypothetical case that a player in steep decline such as Cristiano Ronaldo could guarantee us a trophy, we wouldn’t accept his signing.
“The sense of being a part of our Atletico feeling isn’t within his reach, unfortunately for him, and as such he could never receive our affection or recognition.
“As such, we ask the club to reject his possible signing, if it has indeed been considered at any time.”
