Yobe Assembly passes revised 2022 finance, appropriation bills into law

The Yobe State House of Assembly has passed the 2022 finance and appropriation bills of over N163.9 billion for recurrent and capital expenditures.

The House passed the budget into law following the adoption of the report from its Standing Committee on Finance and Appropriation on the 2022 finance and appropriation bills.

Speaking shortly after the passage of the budget, on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, said in the 2022 budget estimate; a total of over N90.2 billion representing 55 per cent was allocated to recurrent services, while more than N73.6 billion, representing 44 per cent is for capital expenditure.

Mashio, however, noted that the House has reduced the size of the proposed budget presented to the House by Governor Mai Mala Buni by N101 million to ensure a realistic budget estimate.

According to the chairman, the budget will be utilized in the areas of improving commercial activities; provision of agricultural inputs for job opportunities to the teeming youth; basic infrastructure as well as completion of all ongoing projects among others.

He called on the Internally Generating Revenue Agencies in the state to ensure proper remittance of revenue to enable the state government to finance the 2022 budget for more dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

Presiding over the sitting, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Lawan Mirwa commended the members for their various contributions towards the quick passage of the budget for benefit of the electorates.

Recall that, Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni had on November 11, 2021, presented to the House N164,054,384,000 as a budget estimate for the 2022 fiscal year, tagged as “Budget of Continuity, Empowerment and Accelerated Development”.

In the estimated budget, recurrent expenditure is to gulp N91,425,743,000 while N72,628,641,000 is allocated to finance capital expenditure.
