The Zamfara State wing of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Federal Government to resolve the five months old strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities, ASUU within three days to enable students return to schools.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Zamfara State council, Sani Haliru disclosed this while leading some labour unions in a solidarity rally for ASUU in Gusau, the State capital.

The solidarity rally took off from the state secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Gusau, the State capital and ended at the state’s Deputy Governor’s office.

The state NLC chairman noted that lack of education is responsible for the prevailing insecurity in the country.

Comrade Haliru lamented that the elites who enjoyed sound and quality education in Nigeria do not care about what happens to the common masses, pointing out that they are the people crippling the education sector in the country.

However, the State Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), Federal University, Gusau, Dr. Abdulraman Adamu said the effects of over five months stay at home by students is one of the major factors contributing to the increase in the prevailing insecurity in the country.

In his speech, the chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics, Joseph Yabo said the association joined the rally in solidarity with ASUU to press home their demands.

The protesters were, however, received by the Zamfara State Deputy Governor, Senator Hassan Nasiha who promised to convey NLC’s message to the appropriate quarters.

Senator Hassan Nasiha asked the students to continue to learn at home pending when schools resume for academic activities.
